Online Pazhassi Memorial Lecture on Malabar and the Trajectories of Maritime Trade in the Indian Ocean by Professor Pius Malekandathil, at Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University on 3oth November 2019

The Department of History is observing Pazhassi Day every year in memory of the heroic death of Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja who died in a fight against the British on 30th November 1805.

The Department of History has organised a National Webinar on the topic Ethnic Painting in India with Special Reference to Kurumba Community of the Nilgiris. The Resource Person of Seminar is Dr. Manjula Poyil, Head of the Department of History, Kannur University.

Pazhassiraja College has organised T.U. Jacob Memorial Meeting to commomarate the 25th death anniversary of its founder manager Sri. T. U. Jacob on 22 January 2020. Principal Dr. Anilkumar K. presided over the function and the meeting was inaugurated by Smt. K. C. Rosekutty Teacher, former Chairperson of Kerala Women’s Commission and Governing Body Member of Pazhassiraja Education Society. The memorial Lecture was delivered by Prof. T. Mohana Babu, Former Principal, Pazhassiraja College and Academic Coordinator, Nilgiri Arts and Science College.

The Department of History has organized a Book Exhibition of Dr. Shashi Tharoor M.P. at Sultan Bathery in connection with award ceremony of Pazhassiraja College Award 2019, on November 11, 2019. He personally visited the exhibition pavilion and expressed great pleasure and congratulated the faculty and students of the History Department. Hundreds of people visited the exhibition.

Department of History in association with the Self-Defense Training Team of the Kerala Police organized a Workshop for Self Defense of Women in the college. A four member police team consisting of Rahina Rahman, Raji V. K., Sreeja Vinod and Athira Chandran handled the training class of the students. 125 students selected from various departments participated in the on day training. Two effective training sections were given to the students in the programe. The principal of the college Dr. Anilkumar K. inaugurated the progamme on 3oth October 2019.

In order to ensure the self defense of the girls in the campus, the Department of History has organized a six months course in Karatee for the students of Pazhassiraja College. The instructor of this course is Miss Thirtha Santhosh, a Black Belt holder in our college who is studying in the Department of History. A batch of 30 students started their course under the instructor and the certificates will be issued after the succeful completion of the course. The inauguration of the course was conducted by the Sub-Inspector of the Ajeesh Kumar N. and the function was presided over by Principal Dr. Anilkumar N. on 30th October 2019

In order to observe the centenary year of Jalian Walla Bagh Massacre in 1919, the Department of History organised a photo exhibition in the collge.
